I’m Komal Baldwa, founder and CEO of Waleria, a global supplier of the Ayurvedic herb called shatavari. I was born into a generational business-oriented family, where I quickly realized that in male-dominated spaces, I would need to carve my own path and create something meaningful of my own. From the beginning, I’ve been passionate about women’s entrepreneurship, driven by the desire to prove myself and earn a seat at the table. My focus on women’s health emerged from my own experiences. I saw gaps where solutions simply didn’t exist, and I wanted to ensure other women wouldn’t have to navigate these challenges alone.
I’m a strong believer that investing in women-owned ventures creates exponential returns. When women are supported, they thrive, innovate, and deliver greater impact and returns on investment. I’ve spent the past decade developing solutions for women’s health, particularly in areas that have long been under-researched and underserved, like perimenopause and sexual wellness.
Filling the gaps in caring for women’s health
I realized that many existing solutions were one-size-fits-all and didn’t address the complex, real-life experiences women go through at different hormonal stages. I’ve worked alongside doctors, naturopaths, and women's health advocates, and interacted directly with consumers to understand the deep issues that women face.
During my previous women’s condom startup, I spoke with more than 10 women a day about their sexual health concerns, since where I live in India, it's still considered a taboo topic to discuss openly with their partners. This experience shaped the way we approach product development today: community-informed, evidence-driven, and human-focused. We integrate insights from women’s forums, gynecologists, digital health data, and scientific literature—so the solutions we create truly reflect how women experience their health.
Why I was inspired to develop shatavari support
During my previous startup, we worked on a women’s libido supplement. We realized something important—many companies were not including the herbs that the Indian tradition of Ayurveda recommends for women’s health. That insight led me to collaborate with an Ayurvedic pharmacologist and gynecology practitioner to start Waleria, an India-based ingredient supply company, and build more meaningful solutions.
Combining Ayurveda’s wisdom with modern clinical research felt like the right approach to provide safe, effective, and evidence-backed solutions. This led to the development of Aspurus® Shatavari, designed to help women feel balanced, confident, and supported as they navigate hormonal transitions.
Menopause is more than hot flashes
A common myth is that menopause is just about hot flashes. In reality, it is a whole-body transition.
Women often experience multiple changes at once—sleep disturbances, fatigue, mood swings, brain fog, and shifts in sexual health. These symptoms rarely appear in isolation. They show up in clusters, affecting the body, mind, and emotions simultaneously.
By combining real-life experiences with science-backed insights, we can create solutions that help women navigate menopause with clarity, confidence, and balance.
Understanding this life stage is key to feeling in control
Hormonal changes are a normal part of life, but as mentioned, they can affect many aspects of health at once. Also, these changes often begin earlier than expected and build gradually.
Every woman’s experience is unique and deeply personal. It’s essential that women feel heard, understood, and supported during this stage.
Learning to pay attention to your body early can make a meaningful difference. Tracking symptoms, asking questions, and seeking support helps women feel more in control rather than overwhelmed. With the right support, it’s possible to move through these transitions more smoothly and maintain balance across life stages.
Ultimately, understanding this phase empowers women to approach aging with confidence and clarity.
What makes New Chapter’s Shatavari Force™ different?
New Chapter’s Shatavari Force™ supplement contains Aspurus Shatavari, a whole-herb, full-spectrum root extract developed to retain the plant’s complete phytoactive profile.
It’s as close as you can get to consuming natural Shatavari root—similar to how it has traditionally been used for generations. The formulation reflects Ayurvedic principles while leveraging a patent-pending soft extraction process to preserve the plant’s synergistic benefits.
Aspurus has also been clinically studied in perimenopause and menopause, showing improvements in sleep quality, hormone balance (estradiol and progesterone), and stress support, and reductions in hot flashes, night sweats, and feelings of fatigue.*
This life-stage-specific, evidence-based approach ensures women receive support aligned with their real physiological needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.
Supporting the full spectrum of menopausal symptoms
Menopause is not a single symptom—it’s a cascade of interconnected changes affecting sleep, energy, mood, cognition, and sexual wellness. That’s why Aspurus Shatavari was developed to provide holistic, life-stage support.
In our perimenopause study, we used the MSSI‑38 scale, which measures symptom intensity and frequency across 12 domains to reflect women’s real experiences. Across these domains, women showed early and meaningful improvements in:
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Sleep quality and depth
- Feelings of fatigue
- Stress sensitivity
- Overall quality of life
Seeing relief across domains, often within a few weeks, reinforced why addressing menopause holistically matters.
How shatavari supports hormonal balance
Shatavari, known in Ayurveda as a female tonic, is rich in steroidal saponins called shatavarins. These bioactives gently bind to receptors, helping to support the body's natural hormonal balance during the menopausal transition and beyond.
Shatavari also functions as an adaptogen and supports the body through stress and fatigue—two key drivers of menopausal symptoms.
By supporting endocrine balance involved in mood, vasomotor function, and overall well-being, Shatavari helps women feel more balanced, confident, and supported throughout their journey.
You can find Aspurus Shatavari in New Chapter’s Shatavari Force herbal supplement. Our potent whole-food shatavari is grown on a woman-owned farm in India.
